Betta Tank July 2018

It’s been a while since the last update, but this low tech Betta Tank is cruising along. Although the Betta behavior changed and he’s not eating well.

The Betta situation has been interesting. He was doing great, then his behavior changed.

First, he seemed to become quite anti-social! This sounds funny, but it’s true. He likes to go inside the rock structure and he spends much of the day in there.

He has also become a bit listless. If he is out and about, he tends to be just sitting on the substrate.

And finally, it’s like he became blind and dumb when it comes to food. If I drop food in the water, it takes a little while but he finally seems to smell it and will come to the surface. But then it’s almost like he can’t find it. Sometimes it even seems like he pecks at the water surface like he’s trying to take a mouthful of food but he misses. Or… he just doesn’t seem very interested. He used to go crazy for dried bloodworms and Bug Bites.

I thought maybe he was constipated, So i tried a salt bath. I don’t know if that helped or not. This has now been going on for months. And in this time he has lost much of his beautiful colors. But he doesn’t seem to have lost weight. I don’t know what is going on with him. If anyone has any ideas/advice, I’m all ears.

The light is not very strong but it’s good enough for strong moss growth. Other plants have not done very well at all. I’m ok with that though, as I prefer this tank to be as low maintenance as possible. I just wanted a cool looking display for my Betta and to be able to “test the waters” so to speak before starting my large planted tank build.

So overall, this tank is doing OK. I just wish I could figure out what is going on with the Betta’s behavior change and why he’s not eating well.
